This time, he is taking a different turn by trying out writing and directing heavy drama. “Being Flynn” stars Robert DeNiro as an errant father and his performance as always is one for the Oscars. His co-stars too, like Paul Dano who plays DeNiro’s son and award winning actress Julianne Moore as the mom, provide additional depth to the story.

Weitz surely did an excellent job in his version of Nick Flynn’s journal. His adaptation remains true to the original work and though he is famous for comedy flicks, it is a pleasant surprise that Weitz is just as talented in directing drama. Being Flynn is a beautiful movie to watch and if you are one who cries over movies just make sure that you bring something to wipe your tears.

Director Paul Weitz’s official first trailer for Being Flynn has hit the web. The movie is an adaption from Nick Flynn’s memoir, published in 2004, that was titled Another Bullshit Night in Suck City. The big screen feature includes well known actors Robert De Niro, Julianne Moore, Paul Dano and Olivia Thirlby.

Set to open in the spring of 2012, Being Flynn chronicles one writer’s discovery of his absentee father, who he encounters years later, homeless and living in a shelter. According to the cast line-up Paul Dano will play the central character with Robert De Niro on board as the homeless father.
